Welcome from our new CEO

7 Oct 2015

Hello South Bank !  I’m the new Chief Executive of South Bank Employers’ Group and South Bank Business Improvement District . Although I’ve only been in post for a few weeks, the South Bank has been an important part of my life for nearly thirty years.  I first came here in the mid 1980s when I moved to London, and I subsequently worked in and around the area for several years. And my wife’s family lived near Waterloo station for a while.

My professional career has spanned the worlds of urban regeneration and conservation, but places and communities have always been my focus and interest.  I have worked for English Heritage, Woodland Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund and I join the South Bank team from the National Trust, where I had responsibility for all of the Trust’s properties in London, including member and visitor enjoyment, commercial performance, the delivery of major projects, and partnership working.  Much of this addressed urban regeneration issues, as the National Trust has properties in Hounslow, Rainham, Hackney and Morden, but my broader experience in regeneration started in this part of London when I ran Groundwork’s services in Lambeth and Southwark.  Groundwork is a successful regeneration charity which works with local authorities, communities, businesses and other organisations to deliver positive changes to places and to people’s lives.  As well as working in South London, I’ve also run Groundwork’s services in North and East London, including leading on a major community and business project for the 2012 Olympic Games.

So, I know London and its many diverse neighbourhoods very well – the people and places that shape this incredible city continue to excite and motivate me.  I’m a keen cyclist, so expect to see me around the area on a Brompton bike.  I look forward to seeing you very soon.
