Hostile Vehicle Mitigation

Measures to prevent terrorism incidents using vehicles have been installed to protect South Bank visitor attractions and business headquarters.

The ‘hostile vehicle mitigation’ measures  were installed on both public  highways  and  private  land in the South Bank after it was identified that the popular neighbourhood was vulnerable to terrorism. The project was led by the Metropolitan Police Lambeth counter-terrorism security advisor, South Bank Business Watch and Lambeth Council’s counter-terrorism lead.

The measures have greatly reduced the vulnerability to attack of the South Bank’s iconic sites with millions of visitors, including the National Theatre, BFI Southbank and the Southbank Centre.
