South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us: Shaping Our Future event at Lambeth Palace
South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us hosted its annual event Shaping Our Future on Wednesday 29 October 2025 at Lambeth Palace, bringing together local organisations, community groups, and businesses to reflect on progress and shape priorities for the neighbourhood’s next five years. South Bank Employers' Group (SBEG) was proud to support the event, which highlighted the shared ambition for a net zero South Bank and Waterloo by 2030.
The session marked one year since the launch of Sustains Us in October 2024 and provided a platform to share updates, celebrate achievements, and explore how collaboration can deliver high-impact projects across the neighbourhood. Key areas of focus included energy systems, air quality, climate resilience and resource efficiency.
The afternoon began with a guided tour of Lambeth Palace, showcasing recent energy-efficiency refurbishments, including solar panels and a new energy centre. Attendees then gathered in the Guard Room for updates on Sustains Us, with reflections from SBEG’s Chair, Tom Sleigh on the importance of our net zero ambitions, inline with SBEG’s priorities under our shared vision of Working together for a better South Bank for all.
Attendees then participated in a workshop centred around four themes: Buildings and Energy, Air Quality and Transport, Reducing Waste, and Greening and Building Climate Resilience. Ideas ranged from developing a local heat network and using Waterloo Station as a freight hub, to developing local exchange platforms and composting initiatives, and greening the riverfront to build climate resilience.
SBEG was pleased to support an event that brought local stakeholders together to shape the future of South Bank and Waterloo, advancing the neighbourhood’s ambition to be fairer, greener, and net zero by 2030.
